This product, or malathion, the formula is C10H19O6PS2. It is colorless or pale yellow oily liquid with garlic odor for pure product under room temperature. For industrial product, it is dark brown solid with strong odor. It has excellent contact and fumigant effects but no systemic poison. After absorbed into the insect body, it is oxidized into malaoxon. But as for warm-blooded animals, this product can be degraded by carboxylesterase hydrolysis, thus losing its toxicity. As a spray pesticide, 1000 times 45% EC spray could be used for prevention and treatment of the wheat crop pests such as armyworms, aphids and wheat sawfly and for bean crop pests, 450-600 kg per acre is enough. Besides that, this product can be widely used in prevention of pests in rice, cotton, fruit trees, tea, vegetables, trees and public health.

For safety, insecticide malathion is highly combustible with fire and high temperature and it can react with strong oxidants and release phosphorus, sulfur oxide gases after thermal decomposition. As a result, this product should be kept away from fire source in the process of transportation and storage. Besides that, it is not stable. To be more specific, it is prone to be hydrolysis if the PH value is above 7.0 and it can decompose rapidly when PH value is higher than 7.0 or in case of iron, aluminum and other metals.
